How it works
The incentive is through a participating contractor and depends on the home. Happy Solar has no upfront cost and no down payment.
Your home uses energy from your solar array instead of NYSEG, RG&E, or National Grid whenever the sun is working.
Your solar payment is 10%–40% less than a typical electric bill. You save from month one when you qualify.
Only published rules are listed. Nothing here invents a rebate rate. A 2026 cash or loan system does not include a homeowner 30% federal credit.
No down payment. Installation is not something you write a check for on day one.
This calculator shows a conservative 10% first-year estimate. Qualifying homes can save up to 40%.
Happy Solar works through NYSERDA programs. Eligibility depends on the home and the household.
New York’s Solar Energy System Equipment Credit is 25% of qualified expenditures, capped at $5,000. It is not automatic — you claim it on Form IT-255 with your NYS return. It is not refundable; unused credit can carry forward up to five years. Confirm with your tax professional.
NY-Sun is New York’s statewide solar program administered with NYSERDA. Incentive amounts vary by project, location, and remaining program funds. We do not publish a $/W number here because that figure changes.
If you buy or finance the system yourself in 2026, you do not get a 30% federal residential credit. That path ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. This estimate does not add a 30% federal credit. On a PPA or lease, the company that owns the system may still claim 30%. You do not claim it on your tax return. It may show up as a lower monthly payment. Not automatic, and not guaranteed.
Yes. Your system will overgenerate during the spring and summer because we get so much sunlight during those months. You will bank that energy for the winter.
If you qualify and have the right home, there is no upfront cost and you are lowering your monthly electric bill. Think of it like choosing to go to a cheaper gas station.
Happy Solar is a participating contractor. Incentives depend on the home. New York offers a state tax credit of 25% of qualified costs, capped at $5,000, claimed on Form IT-255. That credit is not automatic. If you own the system (cash or loan) and it is placed in service in 2026, you do not get a 30% federal residential credit. On a PPA or lease, the company that owns the system may still claim 30%. That is their credit, not something you file. It may lower the monthly payment. It is not automatic.
Every home and situation is not a good fit. If you have the right home and you qualify, all you are doing is lowering your monthly electric costs.
